The city that gave its name to the Adriatic Sea

Originally located on the coast of the Adriatic Sea to which it gave its name, the town of Adria has maintained the characteristics of a "city of water" over time. Always characterized by a dense network of canals, it now stands near the Po Delta and is crossed by the Canalbianco, which gives life to the picturesque rivieras, where the blue of the canals and the green of the flower fields evoke a magically Venetian atmosphere. The city of Adria, an ancient port since the time of the Etruscans, has maintained its importance over the years as the economic center of the entire Polesine. Its history is contained in the rooms of the National Archaeological Museum, the cradle of the Polesan cultural heritage, in which precious ceramics, ancient tools and historical artifacts are exhibited that tell the past of the city.

Archaeological Museum

Discovering the origins

It is located in the town of Adria and in its large spaces contains various collections from the Etruscan era until the late medieval period. There is an integral exhibition of all the burials of the archaic and classical phase, which represent the most important findings made in Adria in the recent decades, as well as those dating back to the fourth century.
The new southern part of the first floor was dedicated to the III century BC, a period documented by selected burials, while a gallery allows a view from above of the Tomb of the Biga, which represents one of the specific elements of the museum.
